Underfloor heating systems have been designated as energy-saving technologies to be promoted to the public

The 11th Five-Year Plan designated underfloor heating systems as an energy-saving technology to be promoted to the public. On February 17, 2007, the Ministry of Construction issued the “Announcement on the Promotion, Application, Restriction, and Prohibition of Technologies in the Construction Sector during the 11th Five-Year Plan (First Batch) (Piping Categories)” and its appendix, “Key Technology Areas for Promotion in the Construction Sector during the 11th Five-Year Plan.” Within the first major category—Building Energy Conservation and New Energy Development and Utilization Technologies (II): Energy-Saving Technologies for Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration—low-temperature hot-water radiant floor heating technology was recommended for use in residential buildings as a new, highly efficient heating and air conditioning technology. The “Energy-Efficient Design Standards for Residential Buildings” (Draft for Public Comment) issued by the Ministry of Construction stipulates that low-temperature underfloor radiant heating should be adopted for residential units with a floor area of 80 square meters or more. Relevant documents from the Ministry of Construction clearly state that the research and development of heating equipment should be guided by the objectives of comfort, health, energy conservation, and environmental protection.

Currently, underfloor heating technology in China is continuously evolving and maturing. As the industry grows, issues such as overheating and susceptibility to leaks have become major bottlenecks, hindering its development. As the development of underfloor heating relies on continuous innovation, room-by-room temperature control represents the future direction of the industry, while comprehensive industry regulations serve as a safeguard. The emergence of grooved composite panels has offered a new approach to addressing the challenge of difficult maintenance in underfloor heating systems. The development of cost-effective, complete heat exchange units and the exploration of new energy sources for underfloor heating both hold broad prospects. In particular, the emergence and promotion of carbon fiber underfloor heating systems have been widely acclaimed because they have no environmental impact and are both highly safe and energy-efficient.
